Privacy Policy

Scope

This policy covers personal data processed when you use interprt.org and pages under it. Some of our investigative projects link to or are hosted on separate platforms (for example, dedicated project websites), each of which may have its own privacy notice.

Data we collect

  • Basic technical data automatically provided by your browser: IP address, device and browser type, operating system, pages viewed, referring site, and the date/time of your request. Our hosting provider collects this data.
  • Communication data if you contact us by email or social media (name, email address, and the content of your message).
  • Media and embeds you choose to load (for example, an embedded video). When you play an embedded video or follow a social-media link, the third party may collect usage data in line with its own policy.

Purposes & legal bases

We process personal data only when we have a valid legal basis under the GDPR:

  • Provide and secure the site (including preventing abuse and diagnosing faults) — Legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Respond to enquiries sent to info@interprt.org — Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) or Contract if your enquiry relates to a service agreement (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Comply with the law (for example, handling legal requests) — Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
  • Consent-based features (for example, non-essential cookies or optional analytics, if introduced) — Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent at any time.

Cookies

We aim to keep tracking to a minimum. The website may set strictly necessary cookies that are required for core functionality. We do not use tracking or analytics cookies.

Some embedded media (such as video players) may set their own cookies when you interact with them.

Embedded & third-party services

Our pages may include links to or content from third parties — for example:

  • Video platforms (e.g., Vimeo or YouTube) for trailers or documentation.
  • Social media links (e.g., X/Twitter and Instagram).
  • Project microsites hosted under their own domains.

When you visit a page containing such content or you choose to interact with it, the third party may collect information about you and may set cookies in accordance with its own privacy policy.

Sharing & processors

We share personal data only with:

  • Service providers who host, secure, maintain and develop our website or support our email communications. They act on our instructions as processors and are bound by confidentiality.
  • Authorities or third parties when required by law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We do not sell your personal data.

International transfers

Our primary operations are in Norway (EEA). If we use service providers or embed content located outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above:

  • Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period to ensure security and reliability and are then deleted or anonymised.
  • Enquiry emails are kept for as long as needed to handle your request and maintain records of our communications, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability of your personal data, and to object to processing based on our legitimate interests.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how we process your personal data, you can contact us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
